Orillia Youth will get a chance to learn about steelpan drumming this week with visiting Trinidad and Tobago musicians!
Join us at Monday, August 24th at 6pm at the Orillia Couchiching Beach Park in Orillia ON (if it rains the event will be at the Orillia Youth Centre #9 Front Street).
There is no cost for the event.
The Siparia Deltones Steel Band
The
group of musicians aged 16 to 24, who were born and raised in South
Trinidad, thrilled City staff and residents at a welcoming ceremony in
the Barrie Rotunda at City Hall on Thursday August 6th 2009. They play
selections from a variety of musical idioms, many arranged by the
groups mentor and arranger Carlton Alexander.
The Deltones are
being hosted in Barrie by Ricardo Rowe of the Caribbean Institute,
organizer of Barrie’s Caribfest. Their visit to Canada is supported by
the Trinidad and Tobago Entertainment Company. They are eager to share
their musical talents with Simcoe County.
