Drumming Club started

July 14, 2009

There was a great turnout Monday evening at the Orillia Youth Centre
for the Stellula Music in the Schools sponsored interactive drumming
workshop with award winning drummer, Kimio Oki.

The workshop began with a blistering demonstration of percussion by
Oki who has a long history in the business, most notably as a drummer
for rocker Lee Aaron.

Plenty of drums were available so the students had a 'hands on'
opportunity to participate, and they did with great enthusiasm, as Oki
prompted them during the drumming session.

Guests included Blue Haven, a heavy metal band made up of talented
young musicians Ryan Whitworth, Gavin Way, Levi Sexton, Graydon Foy,
all under the age of fifteen.  www.myspace.com/bluehavenrockmusic.
Adding to the mix was Andre Blais, a student of Twin Lakes Secondary,
showing impressive skill on bass.

The aspiring young musician were given the opportunity to sign up for
the drumming club which will meet each Monday at 6pm at the Youth
Centre. Please call the 325-8082 for further information. The club
will perform at this year’s International Drumming Festival in Orilla
on September 13th, 2009.

Stellula would like to extend thanks to Kevin Gangloff, Director of
the Orillia Youth Centre; Dave Greer of Bolt Upright Enterprises for
sound engineering; Gilbert Guitars for contributing sound equipment
and drum sticks; True North Music for loaning percussion instruments;
Kimio Oki for a fabulous job conducting the workshop; and the parents
for supporting the evening and encouraging their children’s interest
in music."
