It is with immeasurable sadness that we have learned of the tragic passing of Jacob Mervin Hill, 25 years of age, in a car accident on Friday, October 3, 2014.

We met Jake in 2008 at our youth open mic event at the Dr.'s Inn in Elmvale, ON.  He instantly won our hearts with his soulful songs and touching lyrics which suggested regardless of the hand you are dealt "you've just got to keep right on believ'n".  We were so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with this one-of-a-kind young man and to witness his wonderfully moving live performances. His songs deserved a much greater spotlight than we could ever provide but in his own words he "never wanted to be a star" but only "to win a place in your heart".  And that he did.

We treasure our memories of Jake, he has left and indelible impression on our program through his unconditional generosity.  Jake opened numerous shows for our visiting mentor musicians and supported our initiatives across Simcoe County.  It is by chance Jake did and interview with our local podcaster Sean McGaughey aka "The Duct Tape Guy" you will find it at the following link including and a number of Jake's songs: http://www.ductapeguy.net/2008/12/for-the-sake-of-the-song-with-jake-hill/.

Please take some time to hear his message and learn about this young Canadian songwriter.

"It's okay to cry it don't mean you're not a man

Lord knows I shed a few tears of my own

so when you're down and you're feel'n like you're all alone

you just got to keep right on believ'n

even when your plans are turn'n wrong

you just got to keep right on believ'n

and start your every journey with a song,"  Jacob Mervin Hill
